My sister visited yesterday. When she visits, she is explicit — she does not want to spend the day sitting around chatting. Since she also doesn’t want to work in the garden, that leaves site seeing. Before she deployed to Afghanistan in April 2010, we toured Shenandoah Caverns and she wanted to do it again.
Since I’ve already written about the Shenandoah Caverns tour itself (click the link above), I won’t go into great detail about that. The script hasn’t changed much — same jokes and bits of information. Our guide was able to answer the few questions our tour group answered.
I should note the price has risen to $23, though still only $20 with a AAA discount. As a local resident, I would love to take all of our guests to the Caverns and its other attractions, but it’s not really in my budget too often for an hour’s entertainment. That said, the price is comparable to Luray Caverns, and there are no stairs to climb. It’s also 15 minutes from home, which is hard to beat!
Do I sound grumpy? I hope not! The formations really are spectacular, and as a hobby geologist fascinated with rock layers, stalactites, and stalagmites, I enjoyed the starts of the show. Here are a few pictures from our latest tour.
