I can’t plant my marigolds or yarrow. I’m only a little upset about that as I watch my lovingly seeded and nurtured marigolds outgrow their tiny cell packs. Even when I can plant them, I’m not sure how many I’ll get.
Why? A bird (wren, I assume) decided to build her nest on the top shelf of my hardening-off rack, right in the middle of a tray of 12 cell packs. Just my luck!
The four or five babies just about fill the nest, and she spends most of her time off collecting food for them, so I think they’ll fledge soon. I’ll miss seeing their hungry little beaks begging for food, but I look forward to reclaiming my plants and getting them in the ground!

A robin did this to one of my hanging plants one year, one up on the porch. It died because we couldn’t water it. From then on I take wooden chopsticks and stick 3-4 in the middle of each pot. You could use twigs too, I just had a drawer full of those sticks.
Oh, I’m sorry to hear that! I won’t be too upset if I lose the marigolds. These birdies are just about ready to fly the coop. I don’t know how they all fit in there, as big as they! Thanks for stopping by, and good luck with any future nests!
